With significant mineral and energy resources – including substantial onshore and offshore oil and gas reserves – the Northwest Territories has the potential to be a leading energy supplier and engine of economic growth. Premier Bob McLeod will discuss how the Government of the Northwest Territories will use newly acquired responsibilities for regulating resource development within its borders to encourage responsible, balanced development in partnership with NWT Aboriginal governments with the goal of bringing NWT resources to market, creating new jobs and economic opportunities and contributing to national and territorial prosperity. The Premier will also discuss the importance of pursuing strategic partnerships with other jurisdictions in the region, including Alaska, to share knowledge and explore ways to advance common Northern interests.
