SWN returns to court Monday seeking injunction extension, posted by CBC News

The energy company doing shale gas exploration in southeast New Brunswick will return to court on Monday to ask a judge to extend the injunction holding protesters at bay. The injunction prohibits protesters from getting closer than 250 metres to the front or back of SWN Resources Canada trucks, and 20 metres from the side of the road where work is being done. [Read More…]  

Anti-shale gas protest closes Highway 11 in N.B. for hours, posted by CBC News

New Brunswick’s Highway 11 near Rexton was closed for about three hours Friday and some exits were blocked due to an ongoing anti-shale gas protest. At least five of the estimated 50 protesters have been arrested for breaching a court injunction that was obtained by SWN Resources Canada last week, RCMP Const. The U.S. has been ramping up shale gas production over the past 10 or so years. It began to achieve scale in 2006 when a multitude of shale plays began production. That year, the U.S. was producing less than 3 billion cubic feet of gas per day (Bcf/d); now they generate over 26 Bcf/d, according to the Energy Information Administration. [Read More…]
