Thank you to delegates and speakers for
two very successful days of learning and networking!

The Canadian Institute’s annual Immigration and International Workers Forum West was held on the at the Marriott in downtown Calgary on October 27 and 28, 2015.

Chaired by Michael Greene and Nicole Jelley, the event centred around exploring the new Express Entry program, LMIAs, as well as broadly how HR departments can attract, relocate, and retain the best and the brightest candidates from around the globe.

  The event opened with…

A session led by co-chair Michael Greene and lawyer, Vance Langford, outlining the past year’s developments including the emergence of Express Entry, how LMIAs work, and a brief look at the future of compliance with the new audit regime now taking effect.  The event continued with a Western Canadian employment and labour forecast helmed by co-chair Nicole Jelley, and professor at the University of Calgary, Eugene Beaulieu, and was followed by a deeper look into Express Entry delivered by Roxanne Israel, before giving way to the “Afternoon on Compliance” with sessions by both Mark Holthe and Janet Bomza.  Finally the first day closed with a session from Joel Guberman on Intra-Company Transfers.

  The second day began with…

A look at the economy from Janice Plumstead, followed by an engaging look at long-term hiring strategy and cultural integration from Adam Czarnecki.  The day continued with a lively examination of PNPs with Brian Tsuji from B.C., Jolene Otieno from Alberta, and Richelle Bourgoin from Saskatchewan, followed up by business strategy with Chris Thomas, and an insightful look at skilled trades from Peter Pilarski.  Finally, the conference wound down after a key session on Labour Market Impact Assessments with Kevin Zemp and Miriam Ortega.
