KEYNOTE The Future of Government in the Cognitive and AI Era

Dave McCann
Managing Partner, Canadian Cognitive Process Transformation Leader
IBM Global Business Services

Cognitive computing and AI have begun to disrupt many industries and are now also poised to revolutionize the public sector. With the ability to analyze vast quantities of data, learn at scale, reason with purpose and interact with humans naturally, cognitive and AI systems have the potential to help government cut costs, overcome resource constraints, free workers from mundane tasks, and improve the accuracy of projections. If done right, these technologies will ultimately help to improve program outcomes, revitalize citizen engagement and tune the engines of commerce in ways that have never been possible before. This presentation will focus on the extent to which governments are poised to embrace cognitive technology and give real-world examples of current and future cognitive computing applications across a few key government use cases. It will also provide key recommendations for governments seeking to begin a cognitive journey of their own.
